The New Beginning

Rick grew up in the family’s Blue Bell Ice Cream business in Bryan/College Station, Texas. At a young age, his parents gave him the opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities. They encouraged him to build relationships with customers which equipped him with strong interpersonal skills. Family time was spent hunting at the deer lease, camping, and cast-iron cooking over fire. They also gathered at Leisure Lake in Bryan, Texas to water ski and fish. Rick also spent time in Colorado visiting his Aunt and Uncle where they attended concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater and snow skiing at the Loveland Ski Resort which reinforced his love of the outdoors.

For many years he has worked full time in the insurance/technology sectors. These professional experiences have given him the opportunity to explore the beautiful state of Texas while visiting insurance agent’s offices.

Sharon grew up in Central New Jersey where family camping was a huge part of her life. Weekends were spent camping, swimming, playing baseball, and roasting marshmallows around a warm campfire. This is where she grew to appreciate and love the outdoors. The beaches, boardwalk food, amusement park rides, and bright lights on the Eastern Seaboard kept her young at heart. She also enjoyed hosting many open houses in her New Jersey home. She wanted to create a place surrounded by family, friends, and memories.

Like Rick, she also worked in the Insurance industry. After 27 years, Sharon decided it was time for something new. She has always enjoyed putting a creative touch on old and new furniture, incorporating different textures, textiles, colors, as well as collecting materials from old buildings. Her hobby is now incorporated into the cottages’ decor. Sharon also enjoys gardening, volunteer work, and assisting with non-profit organizations.

When Rick and Sharon crossed paths, they realized they shared many of the same desires. They both love nature, grilling, visiting small quaint towns with history, secluded camping, music, old cars and trucks, and spontaneous country road excursions.

They have “tag teamed” the cottage projects, soon to complete a vision of hospitality they both find dear to their hearts. The journey from being “A guest” to becoming “The Host” is an exciting leap of faith for both of them.
